8th Pay Commission Proposal Submitted To Govt: What

Shiv Gopal Mishra, who played a pivotal role as the chief negotiator for employees during the establishment of the 7th Pay Commission, has emphasized the need for a new panel to address the current economic conditions.

8th Pay Commission Latest Update

New Delhi: In a significant move, Shiv Gopal Mishra, the chief of the All India Railwaymen Federation (AIRF), has formally requested the government to establish the 8th Pay Commission. The proposal, aimed at revising the salaries and allowances of central government employees, has been submitted to the Union Cabinet Secretary.

Shiv Gopal Mishra, who played a pivotal role as the chief negotiator for employees during the establishment of the 7th Pay Commission, has emphasized the need for a new panel to address the current economic conditions and ensure fair compensation for government workers. The letter underscores the importance of updating the pay structure in line with evolving financial dynamics and employee needs, as per a report by the Economic Times.

8th Pay Commission: What To Expect

Gopal Mishra has reportedly called on the Centre to prioritize the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, highlighting that over 1 crore government employees and pensioners are eagerly awaiting a revision in their salaries and pensions.

“The post-Covid-19 inflation is higher than pre-Covid-19 levels. If we compare the retail prices of essential commodities and goods which are required for daily life, from 2016 to 2023, they have increased by over 80 per cent as per the local market, but we were provided only around 46 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA), as of July 1, 2023. Hence, there is a gap between the actual price rise and DA provided to the employees and pensioners.” Mishra said in the proposal.

Mishra suggested that instead of merely increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA), the government should regularly review the pay matrix of employees. At present, pay commissions are established once every 10 years to update the pay matrix, the report said.

Punjab Gives in-principle Nod To Implement 6th Pay Commission

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday said his department has given an in-principle approval to implement the sixth pay commission for employees of aided institutions of the state.

In a statement, Cheema said this decision will benefit employees of aided schools and colleges under the departments of school education, technical education and industrial training, non-teaching staff of these institutes under the higher education department, and retirees of aided schools.

“The administrative departments concerned have been directed to issue notification for implementation of the sixth pay commission for the employees of aided institutions and retirees of the aided schools,” he added.

The administrative departments will examine the financial statements of the last three years of all the aided schools and colleges, so as to assess the deficit analysis and to send a detailed proposal giving financial implications.

“After considering the administrative departments’ proposal, the finance department will give financial sanction to these institutions,” he said.
