Mystery deepens as CCTV confirms TV doctor Michael Mosley vanished after trekking along coastal path to village

New CCTV images appear to show British TV doctor Michael Mosley less than half an hour after he was last seen by his wife leaving a beach on a Greek holiday island.

The 67-year-old broadcaster set out on a coastal walk along a rocky path between Agios Nikolaos beach and the fishing village of Pedi on the small eastern Aegean island of Symi at 1.30pm on Wednesday — and failed to return.

He had been holidaying with his wife, Dr Claire Bailey, who raised the alarm at 7.30pm, sparking an intensive search mission involving police, the fire department, the coast guard and volunteers, focusing on the area between the beach and village.

It was thought that Mosley might have “fallen from a height” or lost consciousness as the tiny island’s temperatures soared on Wednesday night.

However, the new photos suggest he completed the initial walk to the nearby village of Pedi with footage, captured by a restaurant, placing him on the village’s main street roughly 20 minutes later. Shielding himself from the 36C heat with an umbrella he can be seen walking along the street.

Authorities had also looked into whether he might have left the island altogether but found no indication that anyone had travelled under his name.

A police officer told The Sun that investigators will now “look at all the possible paths he could have taken from there”.

There were also earlier reports a Symi local claimed to have seen Mosley standing at a bus stop in Pedi about 2pm – 10 minutes after the CCTV footage was captured.

On Thursday, the island’s mayor, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, sparked further concern by stating that it was virtually “impossible” to go missing on such a tiny island, which is only about 16km long.

“It is a very small, controlled area, full of people,” Papakalodoukas said.

“So if something happened to him there, we would have found him by now.

“You can’t disappear, you can’t get lost.”

Mosley is well known in Britain for programs including the BBC series Trust Me, I’m a Doctor. He has also appeared on the BBC’s The One Show and ITV’s This Morning. He also popularised the 5:2 diet, which endorses intermittent fasting.
