The IMD had earlier forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and heavy intensity rain in Delhi and the NCR region.
Flights Diverted At IGI Airport: About 22 flights were diverted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday for about 90 minutes between 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm due to overcast conditions and intermittent and sporadic rainfall in the Delhi-NCR region.
Reportedly, the city witnessed light to heavy rainfall on Saturday evening which affected flight operations of airlines like IndiGo which diverted seven flights, Vistara which diverted two flights, Air India which diverted six flights, and Air India Express, which diverted one flight.
As for the weather updates, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in many parts of Delhi-NCR. These include areas like Bahadurgarh, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, and Manesar.
On Saturday afternoon, there was a sudden change in weather as the conditions got overcast resulting in darkness accompanied by moderate to light, and heavy showers at different places in the Delhi-NCR region.
The weather office had earlier in the day forecasted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and heavy intensity rain over isolated places in Delhi and the NCR region.
The IMD said that due to the influence of several weather systems, including an intense western disturbance, a cyclonic circulation lies over Iran, with a trough aloft in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies roughly along the coast. Also, the IMD said that high moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea is likely into Northwest India during April 13–15.
