A teammate who once earned a $21 million signing bonus graciously assisted the NFL’s Mr. Irrelevant to purchase extravagant Christmas gifts for the 49ers offense.

Normally, the quarterback is responsible for purchasing splashy holiday presents for the group that protects his literal and figurative behind each year. But with a huge salary disparity between QB Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey, the veteran back bought Christmas gifts for the offense this year. It was a sizable haul: Each teammate got a personalized golf bag, a gift certificate for custom-fitted golf clubs and a bottle of tequila.

“Financially, I wouldn’t be able to cover that right now,” Purdy said when asked about the presents at a Friday press conference. “Shoutout to him. Everyone loved it, so thank you, Christian.”
