Georgina Cooper, one of the model faces of the 1990s who epitomised the movement known as Cool Britannia, has died at the age of 46.

Having married just a few weeks ago, she’d set up a business on the Greek island of Kos with her new husband but reportedly suffered a sudden downturn in her health in late October. She was rushed to hospital and then transferred to another hospital on the much larger island of Crete but died five days later.

The Londoner started modelling via the Elite Look of The Year contest in her early teens in 1992 and was one of the most recognisable faces in the mid-1990s British fashion scene.

She stepped back from modelling when her son was born.

Other models and friends paid tribute to her on social media with Erin O’Connor saying: “Ahh George…. You were an incredibly loving and kind human-being. We all admired and loved you so much for the warmth and generosity you brought to us all. Beautiful soul, Mum, woman. Rest in peace.”

And Jade Parfitt said: “Devastated to share the news of George’s passing. One of the funniest and naughtiest, never mind most beautiful friends, we all wanted to hang out with George backstage. Sending so much love to her son, family. And friends. Gone too soon.”
