NEW DELHI: The law of averages made its presence felt for Virat Kohli on Sunday, when the Indian batting legend, who has been on the top of his game in this ICC World Cup, was dismissed for a duck in the match against England in Lucknow.
The England fast bowlers put up a spirited display after their skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bowl first. The burst by English pacers included the wicket of Virat Kohli, who fell for a nine-ball duck.
As the camera panned on Kohli sitting on a sofa in the dressing room after getting out, he was seen punching the sofa in anger.

Left-arm seamer David Willey induced a poor shot from Kohli and Ben Stokes did the rest by completing the catch at mid-off.
Before his duck on Sunday, Kohli scored 95 against New Zealand, 103 not out vs Bangladesh, 16 against Pakistan, 55 not out vs Afghanistan and 85 against Australia in India’s opening match of the tournament.

The zero against England was Kohli’s 16th in ODIs in his 275th innings. It was also his 34th duck in international

cricket, equalling the record for most ducks by an Indian player batting in the top 7 positions. Sachin Tendulkar also has 34 international ducks to his name.
Kohli has scored 13,437 runs in ODIs, which includes 48 hundreds. He is just one century short of matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds (49).

Before Kohli’s dismisal on Sunday, Chris Woakes bowled opener Shubman Gill (9) and then came back to reduce India to 40/3 with the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer (4).
