Detail App Let Users Record Multi-Camera Podcasts With Two iPhones

Video recording and editing app Detail has launched a new multiplayer feature that lets users easily record a multi-camera podcast through two iPhones (or iPads) wirelessly.

Detail — which describes itself as “The Camera app for Storytellers” — is catering to the growing demand for video podcasts with its new multicam recording feature.

The multiplayer feature, which is available on the Detail app with the new iOS update, simplifies the process of recording a multi-camera podcast. Users can now seamlessly sync video and audio feeds between two devices, which removes the need for time-consuming editing.

TechCrunch reports that users can either record the audio from the iPhone’s built-in mics or lavalier mics (smaller mics) to record with better audio quality. Detail app captures both audio and video locally and then syncs them.

Additionally, Detail offers various layout options, such as side-by-side, picture-in-picture, and full-screen layouts, allowing for quick and easy editing of the podcast. So users can quickly edit the podcast to switch between these different layouts.

Users can record simultaneously from two iPhones to produce a vertical video of two shots stacked on top of each other. It is a format that is optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, which are becoming increasingly important — especially in the podcast space. Detail’s new feature aims to help make professional video recording and editing more accessible to vloggers and podcasters by simplifying the process.

According to TechCrunch, Detail released its Mac app in 2022 on the App Store after testing it in public beta for a year. The company then released its iOS app earlier this year.

The iPhone app offers features including easy templates and tools to make reaction videos, tutorial videos, and video resumes with features such as a live green-screen editor, AI captions, and teleprompter. The Mac app facilitates video editing with features like AI-generated video descriptions and hashtags.

“While our product on Mac evolved, we realized that people come to us for two things: a fully edited podcast episode that they can share instantly and great short-form content that helps them reach and build an audience on different platforms,” Detail founder Paul Veugen tells TechCrunch.

“But setting up cameras and recording on your Mac is still pretty complicated. We now simplify this to a few taps on iOS. It feels like we finally deliver on our promise of making pro video accessible for everyone.”
