Los Angeles served as the backdrop for Gucci to reveal a new facet of Sabato De Sarno’s work. At the charity gala event “Art + Film” hosted by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on November 4, for which Gucci was the main sponsor, the creative director of the flagship Kering brand dressed many of the guests in his latest creations. This occasion allowed him to showcase his vision for both women’s and men’s evening attire.
Leveraging the widespread media coverage and high society presence at the event, attended by numerous celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, Billie Eilish, Brad Pitt, Lenny Kravitz, Jessica Chastain, Keanu Reaves, and Kirsten Dunst, the Italian luxury house launched “Gucci Ancora Notte,” a capsule collection featuring 12 evening looks for women.
Apart from a few intricately embellished looks, such as a draped silver lamé dress, a lace and sequin number exuding boudoir charm, and silk designs adorned with crystals and gemstones, drawing inspiration from some of Gucci’s 1950s minaudières, most outfits adopted a minimalist style.
Monochromatic in nature, the long, flowing satin or silk crepe dresses glided over the body, often revealing a sky-high side slit running up to the mid-thigh, exposing a glimmering micro-sequin short underneath. Hailing from the 1990s era, this piece represents one of the signature elements of the women’s spring-summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection, named Ancora, which was unveiled during Sabato De Sarno’s first fashion show for Gucci in Milan last September.
On the men’s front, the designer presented rather traditional tuxedos, accentuating the classic cut reminiscent of 1990s Italian suits. Additionally, he presented more festive suits adorned with stripes and monochromatic sets, pairing shirts and suits in identical hues such as Bordeaux, a hallmark of the Ancora collection. Meanwhile, three-piece suits, available in white or pale pink, were intended to be worn without a shirt underneath.
These new evening silhouettes conceived by De Sarno underscore the designer’s sexy-chic, minimalist aesthetic and his ambition to blur the lines between casual wear and evening wear for special occasions.
