Columbia Sportswear Company announced on Thursday the appointment of Cory Long to the role of president of its Sorel brand.

A veteran of the footwear and apparel industry, Long most recently served as global general manager and chief global merchant of DC Shoes. Prior to that, Long’s career includes leadership experience at an array of brands, including Mitchell & Ness, Asics, Supra, and Converse.

“We are delighted to have Cory join the Sorel family,” said Craig Zanon, SVP, emerging brands.
“His strength of leadership and consumer-champion mindset will be key in fueling the next era of Sorel growth.“

Long replaces Mark Nenow, former president of the Sorel brand, who resigned in June in order to focus on his health.

At the time of reporting, the Portland, Oregon-based company said Craig Zanon, senior vice president, emerging brands, would lead Sorel as it searched for a replacement.

In its most recent trading update in October, Columbia said net sales increased 3 percent $985.7 million for the third quarter, with steady gains across the outdoor wear firm’s wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels.

By brand, Columbia sales increased 4 percent to $804 million, with Sorel up 9 percent to $122 million. Smaller brands PraNa and Mountain Hardwear fell 18 percent and 9 percent, respectively.
