Jaipur: 28-year-old Dushyant Sharma was on cloud nine when he matched with a girl named Priya Seth on the dating app Tinder, and the two seemed to share similar interests. After three months of chatting, Dushyant and Priya decided to meet in person. The 27-year-old girl invited him to a rented apartment. However, this virtual relationship, which began in February 2018, was built on lies. Dushyant, a married man, presented himself on Tinder as a wealthy businessman from Delhi, using the fake name Vivan Kohli. Priya started chatting with the man with the aim of kidnapping Dushyant and extorting money. With the help of Dikshant Kamra and Lakshya Walia, the woman kidnapped Sharma as soon as he walked into the house.

Jaipur Tinder Murder: The Ransom Call and Heinous Murder

When making the ransom call, Priya and her accomplices released that the ‘Delhi businessman wasn’t as affluent as he said to be. As Dushyant’s family was unable to meet the demanded Rs 10 lakh, the perpetrators killed the man, stabbing him multiple times, and smothering him with a pillow.

“We got a call from my son’s phone, and ‘Papa, they will kill me, please give them Rs 10 lakh and save me. Priya then snatched the phone and started abusing me. She asked me to deposit Rs 10 lakh in Dushyant’s account. I told her that I don’t have that much money, but could arrange Rs 3 lakh by 4 pm,” Dushyant’s father Rameshwar Prasad Sharma said.

The accused woman seized the victim’s debit card and forced him to share the pin. After his father deposited Rs 3 lakh, they used the card to withdraw Rs 20,000. After getting the money the trio feared that their crime would come to light, they killed Dushyant.

The body of the 28-year-old man was found on May 4, 2018, stuffed in a suitcase in a village outside Jaipur.

Jaipur Tinder Murder: The Confession

After she was found guilty, Priya Seth admitted to the crime. Explaining why she did it, she said, “He never told me his real name and lied about being very rich. I was in a relationship with Dikshant, and he owed Rs 21 lakhs. He was looking for someone to get that money from. So, we planned to kidnap someone, demand a ransom, and unfortunately, end up killing the person.”

When asked by activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj why they killed Dushyant even though his father sent the money, Priya explained, “We had already killed him before the money arrived. We first tried to strangle him and then smothered him with a pillow, but he survived. Then Dikshant told me to get a knife, and he used it to cut his throat.”

Jaipur Tinder Murder: The Court’s Verdict

On Saturday, a Jaipur court sentenced the Priya and other two accused to life imprisonment for the murder of Sharma. Sessions Judge Ajit Kumar Hinger stated in his order that the prosecution has presented adequate evidence to authenticate facts.
