She claims Kmart’s Dog Treat Stocking 25 Pieces, Rawhide Dino Bone and Dog Christmas Cookies 6pk should be avoided due to the harm they could potentially cause to your dog.
“These are dreadful, these treat stockings,” she said. “They’ve got some of the worst ingredients – dextrose, wheat, sugar, soy, rawhide.
“Rawhide, I don’t have enough time to tell you about it. It is dreadful, please do not give it to your dog.”
She then picked up the Rawhide Dino Bone and said: “So skip this one too – just because it’s red does not mean it’s good.”
Moving onto the Dog Christmas Cookies 6pk, the expert added: “These Christmas cookies may look cute, but there’s not one good ingredient in there. Skip them, they’re dreadful.
“There are so many small businesses that do these that have good ingredients.”
In a separate video, the expert went into more detail on the dangers of feeding your dog rawhide.
“The actual end product of rawhide makes it really hard for our pets to digest,” she said.
“If you’ve seen them in store, they come in like a hard log or hard little knots. This when chewed turns chewy, so makes it prone to blockages, prone to choking. It’s absolutely awful.
“Please, please think twice about feeding your dog rawhide. Especially as we’re coming to the festive season because it is sold everywhere and they make them look really pretty with all the dyes that they’ve used.
“But they’re so awful, they’re terrible for their gut health, terrible for their teeth health, just everything in general. They’re just awful.”
A Kmart spokesperson has told 7NEWS.coma.u that customers are encouraged to shop with their pets’ best interests in mind.
“Our pet treats are designed to be treats,” the spokesperson said.
“As with all pet products, we can encourage owners to make informed choices based on what is suitable for their pet.”
However the expert went on to say that there were plenty of great Christmas options at Kmart that were perfect for your pet.
Topping the list were Kmart’s extensive range of festive dog toys.
“We love those,” she said. “Instead of getting the stocking with the toys, get the stocking with the toys — much much much much better.
“They’ve got little gift packs — I think these are the cat ones, that is really cute. This is a dog one – so much better.”
She also said Kmart lick mats, silicone slow feeders and Christmas themed leads and harnesses were also great options.
