A toddler who died when she was struck by a four-wheel-drive in a Sydney driveway has been identified as 18-month-old Rishwika Salibindla.

Mourning family members gathered at the scene on Edna Ave in Toongabbie shortly after the incident occurred at 5.20pm on Friday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene but were unable to save the little girl.

Footage of the street showed a black four-wheel drive inside a taped area on the cul-de-sac, but police did not release details of the driver.

Rishwika’s uncle Joseph Salibindla described the death of his “very sweet and cheeky niece,” to The Daily Telegraph, as “a terrible accident” which allegedly occurred as the toddler’s dad was reversing out of the driveway on his way to the supermarket.

“It is just heartbreaking,” he said. “We can’t believe what has happened.”

Joseph arrived at the scene with his wife and other family members to support Rishwika’s grieving mother and two older brothers, who were home at the time of the incident, as Rishwika’s inconsolable father was transported to Parramatta Police Station for questioning, The Daily Telegraph reports.

“We will stay here with her, me and my wife,” he said. “Whatever we can do.”

A GoFundMe organised by a friend of the family is also raising money for the “beautiful” little girl’s memorial.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
