Bluemarble Men’s Fall 2024

Bluemarble’s Anthony Alvarez was dreaming of space travel. Inspired by cult 1979 movie “Perfumed Nightmare” by Filipino director Kidlat Tahimik, he looked at what Bluemarble aficionados might wear to a rave in space. But it was not all about the party, for there were also references to waste discarded by astronauts, in his fabric treatments for example, and “Ban the Bomb” logos nodding to the Peace Corps that were a very relevant message for today, said Alvarez backstage.

New this season were embroidered, quilted bombers in coated nylon with a metallic finish in copper or silver, and there were jeans embroidered with rhinestones to form what looked like shooting stars. Shirts were long, worn folded up over the shoulders as an extra layer, and classic wool coats in bright hues were vastly oversized, their shoulders exaggerated and offset to the rear. Workwear pants were pleated at the knee, and denim was embellished with panel details in bronze or silver for the most streetwise of astronauts.

His accessories packed a punch, with giant faux-fur hats and statement footwear like a cross between a hiking boot and a creeper with metallic details, their overlayers removable to transform them into slippers. His closing looks, with synthetic fur dressing gown coats spray-painted by hand with celestial motifs and images of the Filipino Bakunawa dragon, were a true spectacle. Space cadets ready to report for duty!
