JCPenney has partnered with Johnny Wujek, the Los Angeles-based celebrity costume designer and stylist to launch the retailer’s first Gen Z-inspired formal collaboration.
JCProm with Johnny Wujek is designed for teens to wear during prom season and other formal events this spring.
Wujek is known for his adventurous approach to fashion and his designs for many pop idols, artists and red carpet regulars including Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and the Kardashians. Most recently, he designed costumes for Perry’s residency “Play” at Resort World in Las Vegas.
The formal collection for JCPenney includes gowns with removable straps and reversible skirts, as well as colorful suits and jackets with zip-off tails. JCProm with Johnny Wujek features 21 statement pieces that can be worn in multiple ways and were designed for all body types. The collection is available in juniors’ sizes XS to 3x and young men’s sizes XS to 4XL. It retails from $59 to $250.
The collaboration, which is a limited-time collection, is available beginning Thursday on jcpenney.com and in select stores.
“Growing up as a kid in the Midwest, JCPenney was my first big department store — from shopping there for special occasions to having family members work there. It’s a part of my fashion journey,” said Wujek. “When I was in high school, prom night felt like the Oscars or Grammys — what you wore was special and a way to express yourself, which is why I’m so honored to create a bold and disruptive collection with JCPenney. Dressing up is a moment. This collection provides teenagers with styles that let them shine and be their most authentic selves on their prom night.”
Michelle Wlazlo, chief merchandising officer of JCPenney, added, “Strategic partnerships are an important part of our vision to expand our customer base and provide fresh and relevant products for all customers. JCProm with Johnny Wujek is the latest collaboration in JCPenney’s ongoing commitment to make fashion truly accessible.
“Johnny’s authentic connection with JCPenney and shared values around accessible fashion for everyone is what made him the perfect partner for this prom collection. We’re excited to elevate our offerings this prom season with an exclusive collection of bold, trending styles to help teens express their own unique styles and personalities,” continued Wlazlo.
In line with its commitment to stand with local communities, JCPenney will donate $250,000 to five deserving high schools across the country to help with prom expenses.
