This will be James Franklin’s first stint in Indian Premier League as a coach. Earlier. Franklin had played for Mumbai Indians.
New Delhi: James Franklin will replace Dale Steyn as the bowling coach at Surisers Hyderabad for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports, Steyn, who joined SRH in 2022, has informed about his decision to the management about his decision to skip IPL 2024 as he needed a break. However, nothing officially has been announced by the franchise. This will be Franklin’s first IPL stint as a coach.
At SRH, Franklin will link up with head coach Daniel Vettori. Earlier, the New Zealand bowler had played for Mumbai Indians in 2011 and 2012. For the unknown, Franklin and Vettori had worked together at Middlesex (County Cricket) and Birmingham Phoenix (in The Hundred). The former left-handed pacer had also served as a head coach at Durham. He is currently serving as an assistant coach for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins is likely to replace Aiden Markram as SRH captain. Cummins, who was bought at Rs 20.5 crores at the IPL 2024 auctions last year in December, is the most successful captain in world cricket at the moment. The Australian pacer led his country to World Test Championship and ODI World Cup wins in 2023.
Under Markram, SRH endured a tough last season as they finished at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 games. Cummins had worked with SRH head coach Daniel Vettori in the Australian team in the past and that increases his chances to be appointed as the skipper for this season.
