‘ICAI Must Reconsider The Reasonable Demands’: Aspirants Request Institute to Revise CA May Intermediate, Final Exams 2024

Postpone ICAI CA May Intermediate, Final Exams 2024: The demand for postponing the ICAI CA Intermediate and Final exams is gaining momentum, with several individuals urging the institute to reschedule the examination dates. The ICAI CA Intermediate and Final Exams and Lok Sabha Elections 2024 fall in May. The much-anticipated polls to elect the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on April 19. The polling will be conducted in seven phases across the nation from April 19 to June 1. The counting of votes will be on June 4. While ICAI CA Intermediate and Final Examination 2024 dates are concerned, ICAI will hold the Group -I Intermediate Course Examination on May 3, 5, and May 9, 2024. Furthermore, the ICAI Group-II Intermediate Course Examination will be conducted on May 11, 15, and May 17, 2024.

Despite ICAI’s decision to prevent any overlap with the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, CA candidates are unhappy with the revised exam timetable. Students asserted that it would be impossible to take examinations during elections. Students assert that apart from elections, many factors are impacting their preparation and the exam timetable.

Sharing a post on X, a user wrote,” Students are not asking for postponement for extra preparation time. Genuine and sincere students would have planned their preparation well in advance and would be ready as well. Those who are justifying ICAI decision to not reschedule exams, please give logical answer to the following questions –  1. What should students relying on public transport do? A lot of buses (public and private) would be on election duty or rally duty. I have been on election duty and we had to travel by BEST buses. 2. All towns / villages do not have exam centers and a default choice of students is to stay in nearest town/city and write exams. Should they not exercise their voting rights? Same is the case with students pursuing articleship at a different place. 3. The continuous sound of rally, drums, bike rallies – How would student concentrate while writing exams? We know the conditions of exam centers. 4. Imagine PM visiting a place for election rally. The naka bandis and road closures are insane. So how is a student expected to reach the exam center in such a scenario? 5. A lot of areas are hyper sensitive as far as security situation is concerned. How would such a risk be mitigated by students?”

“ICAI should understand that if this Exam Schedule is challenged in any Court, ICAI is going to lose the case as it hampers the Right of Citizen – Right to Vote CA Students too have the right to vote & ICAI cannot snatch it from them. Decision of ICAI is regrettable,” wrote another user.

While acknowledging the problems the students are facing, Pradeep Rawat, Social Activist took to X and wrote, “On one hand, we appeal to every youth to participate enthusiastically in the elections. vote, On the other hand, we put them in a dilemma by holding their exams in the middle of elections? Can’t the exams be held after the elections?,

“To schedule exam dates during the National Elections is beyond understanding? With exams around the corner who would go out to vote? Students were ready for a 1 month postponement. The decisions should always prioritize students & members first,” the post further reads.

Tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Election Commission of India, and ICAI, CA aspirants have urged them to consider postponing the Intermediate and final examination from May to June 2024. As of the current moment, ICAI has not issued any official statement concerning this issue. Candidates are encouraged to remain connected with the Institute’s website, www.icai.org, for updates.
