Buster Posey’s retirement after the 2021 season was supposed to be the start of a new chapter in the Giants legend’s life. After calling it a career, he moved to Georgia, his home state, which he had spent years living thousands of miles from.
Less than two years later, not only is the former catcher back with the Giants as a part-owner, but he’s also headed back to the Bay Area.

In a conversation with Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic published Sunday, Posey revealed that he was coming back to the area where he won three World Series titles.
“As Posey explained, it took a year away for the family to realize the Bay Area had become the place that truly felt like home,” Baggarly wrote. “It’s where both their sets of twins were born. So they loaded up the moving truck last week. It’ll give Posey the opportunity to see more Giants games from the stands. He said he is as eager as anyone to watch the next generation of homegrown players establish themselves.”
The signs of a return were there — if you were looking closely. Posey listed his home in Georgia for sale at the end of June after joining the Giants’ ownership group in September 2022. In a February interview with Baggarly, he said that he and his family “definitely miss where we were living in the Bay Area” and called living in Georgia “bittersweet.”
It’s only right that he’s closer to the ballclub he invested his money, and entire career, into — especially now, since the team has his heir apparent on the roster in Patrick Bailey.

Posey played for the Giants from 2009 to 2021 and racked up basically every accolade a professional baseball player could earn in a single career: seven All-Star nods, five Silver Slugger awards, three World Series titles, a Gold Glove, the 2012 NL batting title, 2010 Rookie of the Year and 2012 NL MVP.
Though Posey is still just 36, Giants fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a surprise comeback to the field, or even an appearance in the dugout. Back in April, Posey told the “Foul Territory” show that he had no interest in managing and that “to be honest with you, I don’t miss playing a ton.”
