The Met Gala 2024 featured celebrities and A-list attendees alike in designer looks during Monday’s red carpet event in New York. Several attendees, though, opted for custom pieces courtesy of clothing company H&M.
Awkwafina, Hari Nef and more stars fashioned looks from the Swedish multinational brand for the Met Gala, with each garment and design as unique as the last. Ahead, see celebrities who fashioned custom pieces from H&M.
Awkwafina
Awkwafina’s H&M look took direct inspiration from an archival “Hennes” wedding dress. The cream silk-zibeline gown featured a high slit along the tulip skirt — an ideal design for the Met Gala 2024 theme. The dress also featured an off-the-shoulder neckline hand-embroidered with beads and rhinestones in a delicate daisy decoration. The actress carried a coordinated bag to complete the look.
Hari Nef
“Barbie” star Hari Nef‘s custom gown opted for opulence in a formfitting column dress. The look also featured pale pink taffeta overlaid with translucent, mother-of-pearl paillettes and sequins. Nef’s gown included an element of modernity with its voluminous ivory taffeta bow.
Paloma Elsesser
Paloma Elsesser’s custom look took sculptural inspiration. The bodice of the gown featured a metallic, oxidized green hue, molded to fit Elsesser’s figure with the addition of 3D calla lily elements. The striking bodice was paired with a champagne-colored silk taffeta skirt with a bubble hem. The gown was created in Los Angeles by Michael Schmidt Studios.
Quannah Chasinghorse
Quannah Chasinghorse’s custom gown brought romance to the Met Gala 2024 red carpet. The forget-me-not blue dress paid homage to Chasinghorse’s home, with direct inspiration from Alaska’s state flower, the forget-me-not. The gown also featured a ballerina silhouette with pure silk-satin gazar and a tulle crinoline underskirt. Chasinghorse chose to accessorize the look with a floral belt and jewelry by Indigenous designer Heather Dickson of Dickson Designs.
Stefon Diggs
Stefon Diggs shined in his custom H&M suit on the 2024 Met Gala red carpet. The football star’s suit featured a double-breasted blazer and relaxed, wide-leg trousers. The look also featured an elegant midnight-blue crushed velvet fabric imbued with lurex.
The Met Gala raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” nods to the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, which will open to the public on Friday. The 2024 event is notably cochaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.
