Sport 2000 becomes Sport 2000 Group International

Sport 2000 is continuing its transformation in response to the challenges facing the specialist sports retail sector. Under the new name, the various national organisations should be even closer in future. The ANWR subsidiary’s sales recently fell by 7%.

“2022 was an extraordinary record year which, given the general trend in trade, could not be surpassed in 2023. Looking back over the last few years, 2023 has been a good year, despite a slight downturn, with a positive overall trend,” sums up Managing Director Margit Gosau.

With 3,649 shops in 22 countries, Sport 2000 International generated gross sales of 6.045 billion euros in 2023.

Under a new name, the Group now wants to reinforce the role of the international organisation and its name change: “Sport 2000 Group International and the national country organisations are closely linked, pursue a common strategic approach and bring together different retail formats under one roof,” explains Margit Gosau.

With a greater role for the international organisation and a new name, the group is becoming even more closely-knit, and is positioning itself more specifically for the trade.

“It is only as a group that we will be successful in the specialist sports retail sector in the long term.” Margit Gosau refers to France, where this has already been achieved under the name Sport 2000 Group France, and aspires to an appropriate name change for the other national organisations.

In addition to the core business with classic shops, expert formats such as Absolute and various club concepts should also be strengthened.

In addition, the Group’s international organisation will in future take on the role of strategic leader and structure provider for the national organisations, with expanded decision-making powers in the areas of brand partnerships, data strategy and digital strategy.

The official change of name for the international organisation is due to take place shortly. The retail group is working intensively on its own future by setting up an advisory board made up of the managing directors of the national organisations, who bring individual core competencies and in-depth know-how to the table.
