Kylian Mbappe is one of the most popular footballers in the world, but a former Premier League star has amassed a much bigger net worth.
The worst kept secret in world football was made official at the start of June ahead of the European Championship as Real Madrid confirmed the signing of Mbappe on a free transfer.
It was revealed by Fabrizio Romano that Mbappe netted a ridiculous £86m signing bonus after his move to the Bernabeu which will be spread across his five-year contract in Spain.
Despite a huge drop in his wages at Paris Saint-Germain, he will remain one of the highest paid players in world football.
However, an ex-Premier League star trumps his national compatriot when it comes to net worth.
Mathieu Flamini is well-known from his time in England with Arsenal but is now a partner in GF Biochemicals after retiring from football – which has led to him amassing a ridiculous net worth.
The company was the first to be able to mass produce levulinic acid – which is used as an oil substitute – leading to a huge increase in wealth for both Flamini and his partner.
Forbes estimates Flamini’s stake in the company gives him a net worth of £10.2billion – 715 times more than current France superstar Mbappe.
Speaking of their project, Flamini said, “What we’re trying to achieve here is to tackle the chemical pollution.
“This investment is a first step of a major journey which will also move in the direction of developing key partnerships and agreements with large producers of household and industrial goods.”
Mathieu Flamini has amassed a fortune after retiring from football
Flamini made over 100 appearances for Arsenal, winning two FA Cups during two spells in North London and with a huge fortune behind him, refused to rule out the possibility of one day attempting to become the owner of his former side.
“Obviously those clubs have a special place in my heart,” he told The Athletic in April 2023.
“I never forget where I come from.
“In life, you never know but it’s all about the right opportunity. I’m a real believer in the right time, right place, right people.
“We’ll see what the future is made of. I’m a believer. If you want something very much, the universe usually brings it to you. Let’s see what the universe will bring.”
