According to a report by 404 Media, “Condensation Death” is not the only issue that is “driving users nuts,” but it is also allegedly causing several cases of malfunctioning AirPods Max.
How this issue is affecting users
Some users noticed that the AirPods Max ear cups get extremely wet after wearing them for longer periods. Condensation usually happens when a cold object is kept next to warmer, humid air. In the case of AirPods Max, which are made entirely of metal, are more prone to condensation.
Condensation issues are common amongst headphones. However, the situation with AirPods Max seems to be more alarming. In several scenarios, large amounts of sweat or humidity are forming into water droplets inside the ear cups. Due to this, the liquid can leak through the speaker holes and can damage the headphone’s internal components.
The report added that a lot of complaints about condensation problems with AirPods Max are still available across the internet. Affected users have shared multiple posts on the Apple Community forums and other social networks about facing condensation issues with Apple’s premium headphones.
A Reddit post about AirPods Max repairs also claimed that most “hardware issues originate from condensation issues.” In some cases, AirPods Max randomly stopped working or lost audio quality due to constant condensation.
What Apple has to say about the issue
As per the report, Apple isn’t considering this as a major issue. Instead, the tech giant has reportedly asked users to be more careful about how they use AirPods Max in certain situations.
For this, the company also hasn’t detailed any clear repair policy for situations like this. However, Apple did allow some affected customers to get their AirPods Max replaced for free under warranty. The company is expected to launch a new version of the AirPods Max soon.
Recommendations for affected users
The report notes that Apple will deny free repair if AirPods Max eventually stops working due to condensation. However, affected users can do a few things to fix the headphones.
Some technicians claim that disconnecting the headband from the drivers and disinfecting the connectors with isopropyl alcohol may help the AirPods Max to work once again.
Users also advised putting electrical tape over the pinholes inside the AirPods Max ear cups to prevent condensation from leaking into the connectors.
