Teen charged with dangerous driving in multi-vehicle crash

An 18-year-old previously charged with speed-related offences is facing new charges after a multi-vehicle crash earlier this year in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police said its major collision bureau laid the new charges in connection with a crash on March 28 at about 8 p.m. in the Derry-Argentia Rds. area of Mississauga.

Police said a black Honda SUV was allegedly travelling eastbound on Derry at a “very high rate of speed” while approaching Argentia before rear-ending another vehicle. The SUV mounted the median and struck a second vehicle travelling westbound on Derry head-on.

The driver of the rear-ended vehicle was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, police said, while the driver and passenger of the vehicle hit head-on were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and a passenger in the Honda were transported to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Andrew Al Dbai was arrested on Tuesday and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, performing a stunt by speeding and three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

Police said Al Dbai was previously charged with speed-related offences, but had yet to comment on what those charges were and whether they had been resolved.

PARKING OFFICER ASSAULTED

A 40-year-old Toronto man has been charged with assault after an incident involving a parking enforcement officer near Earlscourt Park.

Toronto Police said they responded to a call near the park on June 17 at about 9:14 p.m., when a parking enforcement officer was allegedly attending to an illegally parked vehicle.

After the officer issued a violation notice, the driver of the vehicle allegedly became aggressive and assaulted them. Police said a suspect was arrested at the scene.

Lucio Nickolas Oliva has been charged with assault.

Toronto Police said they responded to a fraud call on March 18 at about 10:28 p.m. in the Weston Rd.-Black Creek Dr. area, four days after the victim allegedly received a call from someone claiming to be a lawyer.

The person allegedly said the victim’s son was involved in a fatal crash with a pedestrian before demanding cash to cover their son’s bail and the pedestrian’s funeral costs. Three people then allegedly came to the victim’s house and collected $100,000.

The first suspect is a 5-foot-10 male with a thin build and black cornrows worn in a ponytail. He was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, black pants and black shoes.

The second suspect is a 5-foot-10 male with a thin build and short black hair. He was wearing black framed reading glasses, a puffy black North Face jacket, black pants and black running shoes.

The third suspect is a 5-foot-10 male with a heavy build and brown shoulder-length hair. He wore a white dress shirt, black pants, white/green shoes, a chain necklace and several rings.
