Despite Olympic woe boxer Chantelle Reid feels ‘blessed’

AFTER her middleweight round of 16 loss to Khadija Mardi, Team GB’s Chantelle Reid is staying positive.

The Derby boxer said: “I feel good, I couldn’t have done anything more in the ring so I feel good about my performance. I definitely feel I won the first round. My opponent came back with different tactics. I tried to stick to the plan as much as possible but I didn’t get the decision.

“I feel so blessed just to have qualified. I’m grateful to be here with the best team, best coaches, best support staff. I’m boxing with the best in the world. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I’m just so grateful to be an Olympian and that’s not going to be taken off me so. That is going to stay with me for the rest of my life.

“Two years ago I never envisioned this. Last January I came back aiming to win Championships let alone qualify for the Olympics. But yeah I’m an Olympian and I’m proud of myself, proud of my graft, proud I gave 100% in my performance and that’s all I could have asked myself to do.

Two years ago I never envisioned this

“I’ve really enjoyed being on Team GB, I’ve not been on here long so four more years isn’t out of the picture. Me and the coaches will watch back the right and see what can be adjusted, what we can improve on and learn from it and move on. Get better from now.

“I’ve never gone into the ring feeling so good, feeling so confident, feeling like I was going to get the win so no bad feelings going into the fight at all.”
