Kye Whyte became an overnight British sporting superstar at Tokyo 2020 when he claimed a silver medal in the BMX event.
The then-21-year-old made Olympic history by securing Team GB’s first-ever medal in this sport, and he’s back for 2024, eyeing gold this time around.
Whyte has been on a bike all his life starting at the Brixton BMX Club when he was just three.
He then joined the Peckham Club and became a part of the Great Britain cycling team, but at just 13, he suffered a horror crash that left him in an induced coma for five days.
He also took a break from BMX riding for year, but unlike many others in that situation, he returned to competing.
That dedication and bravery was rewarded in 2018 when he picked up a European Championship silver medal.
Unfortunately, at the 2019 UCI BMX World Championships, Whyte was in contention for medal until a crash saw him finish fifth.
However, he was brilliant at the 2020 Olympics and claimed silver, just missing out on gold to the Netherlands’ Niek Kimmann.
Here, talkSPORT.com takes a look at when you can catch him in Paris…
When is Kye Whyte in action?
Whyte is taking part in the BMX Racing on Thursday, August 1.
Whyte is entering the quarter-final stage of the men’s event, and he’s in heat two.
The action is set to get underway at 7pm UK time.
Should he make it through, the semi-finals are on Friday at 7pm before the final at 8:35pm.
After grabbing silver at the last Games, Whyte’s attention has now switched to going that one step further.
He said: “I am so excited to get to Paris as I feel as though this is going to be my first Olympics experience as Tokyo had all the Covid restrictions in place.
“This time, I’ll have my family watching on, my friends and the fans support means everything.
“You never know what’s going to happen as BMX racing is a hard one to judge, but I’ll definitely have my eye on winning and bringing home a medal.”
