The officer — making an arrest while off-duty — was shot in the Bathurst-King Sts. at around 11:45 p.m.
The officer recognized the suspect as a man who was wanted for attempted murder, according to police.
Javell Jackson, 30, of Toronto was taken into custody.
“(Jackson) was wanted for the attempted murder of a man he was alleged to have shot on Dec. 3, 2022 in the Church and Front streets area,” Det.-Sgt. Brandon Price said Sunday. “Additionally, he was wanted for unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failure to comply with a release order.
“Following the events of last night, he will face several more charges, including another count of attempted murder and numerous additional firearm charges,” added Price. “The incident demonstrates that our officers, even when off-duty, are committed to keeping our city safe and sometimes at great risk to themselves.”
The wounded officer was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is now recovering at home.
