Don’t get me wrong, I love designer brands as much as the next person.
But planning a wedding, buying a house and slotting a small holiday in here and there doesn’t leave much cash to splash on exorbitantly priced products.
And while the “dupes” have come pretty far in the past decade, most of the time ‘knockoffs’ leave much to be desired in terms of quality.

But as I ducked into Myer the other day to try on a pair of sunglasses, I walked right past a beige-coloured bag I felt certain I had seen before.
The team had popped the Marcs Barbados Natural Beige Zip Top Tote Bag, which usually retails for $109.95, at the very front of the store to advertise that Myer One members could get a 25 per cent discount on it.
That brings the bag down to just $82.46.
But why was the bag so familiar? Oh yes, it looks nearly identical to Chloe’s $1,700 Medium Woody Tote Bag.
“Crafted from lower-impact linen canvas detailed with shiny calfskin strips, this medium Woody tote bag is a spacious bag with a strong summer attitude. The roomy inside compartment includes a practical flat pocket,” the Chloe website describes it.
“The bag’s modern lines are emphasised by the contrasting vertical leather strips and the signature Chloe logo ribbon.
“Carry this tote bag comfortably on the shoulder.”
Now although the Marcs bag is certainly not made from sustainable linen, it does have a very similar colouring crafted from faux leather, and it’s available in a black shade too.
There is high praise on Myer’s website for the Marcs bag.
“Love this bag so much. It is perfect for any occasion and has so much room inside. Love the zipper too so you can close it up,” one woman wrote.
“I love this bag! It’s so beautiful and goes so well with my outfits. It’s a bargain. Would definitely recommend,” said another.
A third added: “Its a perfect tote which literally goes with any dress. Also its very spacious and durable. Would definitely recommend it”.
