(The Hill) — The Harris-Walz campaign has sold nearly $1 million worth of now sold-out camo hats branded orange with “Harris Walz” in the day since they were released, the campaign confirmed.
“You asked, we answered,” the campaign said on its online store. “The most iconic political hat in America.”
The campaign said it had originally printed 3,000 hats and it sold out in less than 30 minutes. The hat sold for $40 and was American and union made.
Vice President Harris announced Tuesday that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) was her running mate. Harris announced her pick in a video that showed the governor dressed in camo gear at his home in St. Paul.
Users online picked up on the camo hat in the announcement and began calling the North Star State governor a “Midwest Princess,” a nod to pop singer Chappell Roan’s merchandise. The artist’s hat reads “Midwest Princess” in orange font on a camo hat.
So many hats were sold that in its reporting, Teen Vogue wondered if the camo hat will forever be changed, as red hats have become associated with former President Trump and his supporters.
The campaign said the inspiration for the hat came from the governor himself. They came up with the idea as soon as they saw the video call with Harris and Walz and he was in a camo hat.
Walz shared a photo of himself wearing the hat Tuesday evening after joining Harris for his first rally in Philadelphia. He said he was “capping off the night.”
The campaign said they made sure to print hats in Pennsylvania so Walz and his family could be one of the first recipients.
