New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Haryana state president Mohan Lal Badoli said on Friday, August 30 that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will contest the Assembly election from Ladwa in Kurukshetra district.

“CM sahab Ladwa se chunav ladenge (the CM will contest from Ladwa),” said Badoli while speaking to media in Delhi.

The Ladwa assembly seat is currently held by the Congress’s Mewa Singh.

Currently, Nayab Singh Saini represents the Karnal seat in the Haryana Assembly. Before that he was an MP from Kurukshetra between 2019 and 2024.

The BJP is expected to release its first list of candidates for the Legislative Assembly polls by Sunday, September 1, say the sources.

The elections for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held on October 1 while the counting of votes will take place on October 4.

The BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) convened in the national capital on Thursday to finalize the party’s candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections, aiming for a third consecutive term. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP president JP Nadda were among the CEC members who discussed the likely list of party nominees for the state elections.

Badoli, the MLA representing Rai in Sonipat, also stated that he would not be contesting the election. He mentioned that following further meetings, the initial list of candidates is anticipated to be released shortly. Additionally, Badoli clarified that there have been no talks about an alliance, firmly asserting that the BJP is poised to establish the government with an absolute majority.

In the last assembly polls, the BJP had emerged as the single largest party and formed a coalition government in a post-poll alliance with the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). The alliance broke earlier this year just before the Lok Sabha polls.

There are a total of 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana, of which 73 are general, SC-17, and ST-0. There will be a total of 2.01 crore voters in Haryana, of which 1.06 crore are males, 0.95 crore are females, 4.52 lakhs are first-time voters and 40.95 lakhs are young voters.
