Incase your parents, family members, friends are not familiar with UPI use, you can add them on your UPI ID as a secondary user. Check how to do it.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched a new feature called “UPI Circle” to enhance digital payment accessibility. This new feature allows primary users to add family members and friends as secondary users, under which they can make transactions using the primary user’s bank account, within the pre-set limits.
NPCI has set the maximum limit at Rs.15,000 for a month where a single transaction limit can not exceed Rs.5,000.
The new UPI feature is designed for those people whose family members may not have their own bank accounts or are not familiar with the UPI payment system. In case your family members are financially dependent on you you can make them a secondary on your UPI ID.
UPI Circle Features
According to the NPCI detailed primary users can now delegate payment authorisation to secondary users, such as family members or employees, who can then perform transactions directly from the primary user’s account.
This is useful for parents who are dependent on their children for financial transitions or are now aware about digital transactions. Even business owners can manage petty cash for their staff through this feature whom they trust.
Primary User Can Limit Payment Amount
Primary users can decide spending limits or select options wherein secondary users need to take their approval for each transaction.
In the “Spend With Limits” option secondary users can make payments only within defined limits without any further approval.
But the “Approve Every Payment” option will have control of the primary user who will give approval for each transaction.
How To Set Up UPI Circle
- Go to UPI Circle Menu: Tap “Add Family or Friends”
- Enter a secondary UPI ID, scan their UPI QR code, or search your phone contacts and add them.
- You need to choose between two options: “Spend With Limits” or “Approve Every Payment”.
- Secondary users will get a notification to accept the request.
- Once accepted, secondary users can start making payments using the primary user’s UPI account.
Primary users can add up to five secondary users, but a secondary user can only accept a single primary user. The primary user can also revoke access to the secondary user at any time they want.
