Early studies from Pilani
Vivek Chaand Sehgal received his early education from Birla Public School, Pilani, Rajasthan. Then he graduated from Delhi University. Sehgal started Motherson in 1975 with his mother, Swarn Lata Sehgal. Initially, the company was in the silver business.
Entry into the automobile industry
After the silver business failed, Sehgal changed his strategy and took a strategic step to enter the automobile business. This strategic change truly proved to be a game-changer and helped Motherson emerge as a global giant. The company’s first foray into auto components was in 1986 when it formed a joint venture with Sumitomo Wiring Systems of Japan. This set the stage for strong growth in the automotive business.
