That’s why, an expert has warned that one specific food group can contribute to premature aging and cause “snack lines’ to form.

According to experts from Teoxane and DRG Global, the Teoxane Age of Wellness Report sheds light on evolving beauty trends, revealing that over 32 percent of young adults aged 18-25 prioritise skin quality when considering aesthetic treatments.

This survey of 2,500 participants highlights a significant shift towards focusing on skincare and cosmetic interventions among the younger demographic.

With growing interest in maintaining a youthful appearance, it’s crucial to understand the impact of dietary choices on skin health and whether reversing signs of aging is achievable.

Dr Saleena Zimri, Teoxane Practitioner and founder of Skin Doctor Clinics, told Express.co.uk that consuming a diet high in sugar can visibly affect your skin, accelerating signs of ageing and diminishing your complexion’s overall health.

She explained: “When you eat a lot of sugar, your body undergoes a process called glycation, in which sugar molecules attach to proteins, including collagen and elastin, which are crucial for maintaining skin’s elasticity and firmness.

“Glycation weakens these proteins, causing the skin to lose its natural elasticity. This makes it prone to wrinkles, sagging, and fine lines, and overall dullness in your complexion.”

Highlighting other issues, the expert continued: “A high-sugar diet can also contribute to inflammation, which is known to aggravate skin conditions like acne and rosacea.

“Sugar spikes blood glucose levels, triggering an inflammatory response that can make acne more severe by increasing oil production and clogging pores.

“Chronic inflammation from excessive sugar intake can also lead to puffiness, redness, and uneven skin tone.”

The skin care pro went on to add that lines around the mouth, often called “snack lines,” are shaped by both dietary habits and repeated muscle movements.
