The incident took place in Menamkulam, Thiruvananthapuram. The man, along with a group of other men seated beyond the capacity of the vehicle, was driving while the child was sitting on the bonnet without any safety precautions.
It is reported that the man drove the vehicle on a busy road in the state capital while the child is said to be a mere six-year-old. The police came to know about the incident when some passerby recorded a video and shared it on social media, after which it went viral.

The person driving the car was traced down using the vehicle number visible in the video and was arrested on the same day. However, his friends, including the father of the child who was also present in the same car, were not taken into custody.
A case has been registered against the driver under the IPC 279 (rash driving) and Motor Vehicle Act 184 (dangerous driving). Additionally, the motor vehicle department will also be taking respective actions against the owner of the vehicle for unauthorized modifications made to it.
The incident has also highlighted the need for parents to be more vigilant about the safety of their children. While allowing children to stand out of the sunroof is already a dangerous trend that has been noticed recently, this incident has taken the safety concerns to the next level.
