Indian chess team including star Vidit Gujarathi let go on the dance floor in Budapest night club after winning gold medal at Chess Olympiad 2024.
Chess players are considered to be a serious bunch with the amount of mental strength needed to succeed in this sport. However after winning the Chess Olympiad 2024 gold medal in both the men’s and women’s category, the Indian chess stars let it go on the dance floors in Budapest, Hungary.
A video featuring Indian chess stars Vidit Gujrathi, Harshit Raja and men’s captain Srinath Narayanan soon went viral on social as they celebrated their gold medal-winning feat at a night club in Budapest over the weekend.

India’s D. Gukesh and Arjun Erigasi won individual gold for their performances on board one and three but Vidit Gujarathi missed out on a medal on board four as he finished with 7.5 out of 10 points to finish in fourth place, just out of the medal position.
Srinath Narayanan was India’s non-playing captain and coach during the Chess Olympiad in Budapest this year. He is an experienced captain and has led India in several high-profile events, including the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad 2020 (where India was joint winner with Russia), the 2021 Online Chess Olympiad and 2022 Chess Olympiad in Mahabalipuram and the 2022 Asian Games.
Meanwhile, the quartet of D. Gukesh, R. Praggnanandhaa, R. Vaishali, and men’s team captain Srinath Narayanan landed in Chennai early on Tuesday morning. Both the Indian men’s and women’s teams scripted history on Sunday, winning their maiden gold medals in the Chess Olympiad 2024 in Hungary.
Their extraordinary victory reinforced India’s position as a new chess powerhouse. And as was expected, there were loud cheers as the four walked out of the airport.
Gukesh, who was instrumental in Indian men’s team dominance in the tournament with an unbeaten run, flashed his individual and team gold medals for the cameras. The 18-year-old is now gearing up for the world championship clash against China’s Ding Liren in November after becoming the youngest ever challenger to the crown by winning the Candidates Tournament in April. “It’s very special, since both the teams won the gold,” Gukesh told PTI news agency.
