Report: Lynx head coach Reeve confronted Sun players after Game 1 loss

It’s no secret that the WNBA is a chippy league that welcomes emotions on the court, but not often do things carry over off the court like they seemingly did following Game 1 between the Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx last Sunday.

Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve, a four-time WNBA Coach of the Year and champion reportedly confronted Sun players following a 73-70 loss in Game 1 of their semifinals series.

According to Shams Charania of the Athletic, the altercation took place near the Sun locker room as Reeve took exception to the way Connecticut celebrated its series-opening victory.

Reeve led the Lynx to a 30-10 record and first place in the Western Conference this season, earning Coach and Executive of the Year honours for her efforts.

The bench boss reportedly “ran up” on Sun players following the narrow loss according to one of Charania’s sources.

The league is aware of the matter but has not provided comment thus far.

Game 1 came down to a final attempt by reigning Defensive Player of the Year Napheesa Collier that ultimately fell short, leading to the ensuing celebrations by Connecticut to which Reeve took exception.

Close contests and tensions are not unfamiliar for the two teams as their three regular season matches were all decided by five or fewer points.

And the playoff series has been just as tight so far as Game 2 ended in a 77-70 win for the Lynx as they evened up the series at 1-1.

Game 3 began Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Connecticut.
