Apple Starts Assembling iPhone 16 Series in India, Expands Local Operations

New Delhi. Apple has begun assembling its entire iPhone 16 series in India, a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to diversify its manufacturing beyond China. This marks the first time Apple has produced its high-end Pro models outside of its traditional manufacturing base.

The move is part of Apple’s strategy to strengthen its supply chain and reduce reliance on a single region. According to reports from GSM Arena, the iPhone 16 series, set to launch in India later this month, will also be exported to select global markets, further cementing India’s role in Apple’s global production network.

Along with the assembly news, Apple is expanding its retail presence in India by opening four new stores in Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi, and Mumbai. These additions will complement the existing outlets in Delhi and Mumbai, which opened in April 2023.

This combination of manufacturing and retail expansion underscores Apple’s increasing focus on India as both a key production center and an important market for its products.
