Ravichandran Ashwin has become the highest wicket-taker in the history of World Test Championships after his two wickets before lunch on Day 1 of 2nd Test vs New Zealand in Pune.
Team Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin set a new record in the ICC World Test Championships (WTC) in the ongoing second Test vs New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Thursday. After a forgettable Test in Bengaluru, Ashwin bounced back to claim the first two New Zealand wickets of skipper Tom Latham and Will Young on Day 1 of the second game to become the highest wicket-taking bowler in the history of WTC.
Ashwin began the Test match in Pune, one wicket behind Australia’s Nathan Lyon on 186 wickets from 38 Tests. But his two wickets on Thursday morning mean that Ashwin now has 188 wickets in 39th WTC Test at an amazing average of 20.7.

Lyon has 187 wickets in 43 Tests in WTC at an average of 26.7. Australia captain Pat Cummins is in third place with 175 wickets in 42 Tests at an average of 22.81.
