Chevy Installed Phone Microphone Backwards On Some Blazer EVs, Making Calls Nearly Impossible

Chevrolet sent out a service bulletin in September stating that the microphone on the 2024 and 2025 Blazer EV may have been installed backward. With handheld cellphone use being illegal in 30 states, the in-car microphone is vital for making calls while behind the wheel. Thankfully, the fix is simple for technicians: Just turn the mic around.

The bulletin noted that the microphone could have been placed incorrectly on the roof console. The microphone’s holes don’t align with the roof console’s holes, blocking the mic from picking up sound. Blazer owners mentioned online that their voices sound muffled on the other end. The fix is simple, and confident owners could just do it themselves. The bulletin reads:

“Lower the overhead console and inspect the microphone. If the microphone is installed correctly the wires on the microphone will exit to the left of the console as shown in the photo below. If the circuits exit the microphone towards the right side of the roof console rotate the microphone 180 degrees and reinstall.”

The microphone installation issue only necessitated a technical service bulletin instead of a recall because it wasn’t deemed a safety issue. Yes, that phone call you desperately needed that happens to hit while driving isn’t considered life-or-death situation.

The Blazer EV was nowhere near perfect before this point. GM issued a stop-sale on the vehicle late last year after significant software issues emerged. The electric vehicle returned to market with the issues fixed and over $6,000 slashed off the retail price.
