Psoriasis is a serious skin condition that is affecting increasing numbers of Aussies.
It’s one of the top 10 most common skin disorders in the world and data from the Australasian Journal of Dermatology shows that Australia has one of the highest rates of psoriasis sufferers.
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that causes patients to experience red, itchy, scaly patches across their skin which can in turn affect the kidneys and cardiovascular system.

Unfortunately, while psoriasis cannot be cured, it can be managed with the right treatment.
Thomas Tan, 32, from Melbourne, knows all too well the struggle and daily battles of suffering from psoriasis.
Thomas was first diagnosed with the skin condition at 16 and was originally prescribed topical steroids, which he was on continuously until two years ago.
Thomas’ condition was exacerbated by stress and his constant flare-ups led him to making certain lifestyle and diet changes.
Initially his psoriasis was so painful he struggled to even exercise but adopted a diet of 95 per cent beef and lamb, free of carbohydrates, plants, sugar and anything artificial.
He found his skin started to improve after six months on the diet and now two years later, it’s almost completely cleared.
Thomas now generally eats 1-2 meals a day mainly comprised of steak or lamb, occasionally adding in chicken, seafood, pork or eggs.
“It sounds boring, but it’s also a relief as I don’t have to think too much about what I want to eat. My skin was always so bad, but I saw a huge difference in terms of my skin and fitness,” Thomas tells Best Picks.
He can also now lift weights and exercise normally with his energy improving and his flare-ups becoming less and less frequent.
Thomas also discovered hero product MooGoo Eczema and Psoriasis Cream which was an absolute game changer when it came to managing his psoriasis.
The cream helps manage and calm the skin as well as reduce flaking.
Before discovering the cream and changing his diet, Thomas’s self-confidence was severely affected.
“Even on hot days, I’d have to wear long sleeves and trousers because my legs and arms were covered in psoriasis. Since it’s cleared, my confidence has soared,” Thomas says.
Another psoriasis sufferer, Emily Merrin, also found her skin condition majorly improved after discovering and incorporating MooGoo products into her routine.
“I have been using MooGoo for the past few years and especially loving the Full Cream Moisturiser, it’s naturally nourishing ingredients like Sweet Almond Oil, Coconut and Olive Oil as well as Allantoin and Milk Protein has a subtle smell and feels beautiful on my skin,” Emily says.
Emily has found that finding and using the right products has been imperative when managing her psoriasis flare ups.
The CEO of Australian natural skincare brand, MooGoo Melody Livingstone says it sells “a psoriasis or eczema cream every one minute and 45 seconds as sufferers try to control the itch”.
According to Melody, light therapy, sunshine and using a good calming moisturiser like MooGoo can help manage psoriasis symptoms.
