Lucid is just about ready to start production of its second act, the Gravity crossover that was unveiled last year, and we’re now getting a better idea of what it’ll cost. I’ve got some good news folks: the price ain’t bad. I mean, it’s not cheap, but for what you’re getting, it’s a very decent value especially when put up against its competition.
Slated to start production at the end of this year as promised is the Gravity Grand Touring, which boasts a 440-mile range, and it’s going to start at $94,900. The cheaper Touring trim is slated to come out in late 2025, and it’ll carry a $79,900 pricetag, just meeting the sub-$80k figure that Lucid said it would boast last year. (There’s no range figure for the Touring yet.) It’s nice to see an automaker actually keep its pricing guarantees. I should mention that neither of these prices includes destination,, but if I had to guess it’ll be pretty similar to the Air’s $1,500 charge as the two cars are coming from the same factory.
We’ve previously said the Gravity will ride on an all-new platform for Lucid that was developed specifically for the crossover, and it’ll also feature more power-dense motors and an updated 900-volt electrical architecture. Lucid says it’ll hit 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds in Grand Touring trim, have a payload capacity of over 1,500 pounds and will be able to tow 6,000 pounds. All of that, plus a 440-mile range for $95,000, makes it a really compelling package. Oh, and it’ll be able to add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes via fast charging. That’s some really impressive stuff.
The Gravity Grand Touring can go way farther on a single charge than its main three-row competitors like the Kia EV9 (304 miles), Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV (339 miles), Rivian R1S (410 miles), Volkswagen ID Buzz (234 miles) and Tesla Model X (335 miles). Even in its highest trim level, the Lucid is cheaper than the longest-range versions of the Rivian as well as every version of the Mercedes, and it’s only a bit pricier than the entry-level Rivians and the Model X Plaid. Having a wildly-low drag coefficient of 0.24 in a seven-seat crossover with 120 cubic feet of usable cargo space certainly helps, as does the battery pack that Lucid says will have a capacity similar to the Air Grand Touring at 118 kWh.
We don’t have official power numbers, but Lucid says the Gravity will have “over 800” horsepower, so I’m sure it’s going to be a very big number. That’s not exactly surprising when the Air Sapphire puts down a mammoth 1,234 horsepower (and it’s definitely more than that). Hell, the Air Grand Touring makes 819 horsepower and 885 lb-ft of torque.
Lucid says that order books will open for the Gravity on November 7, and current Lucid owners will be given priority to take delivery, so the rest of us will have to wait. Luckily, Lucid will also be launching an online configuration for the Gravity on the 7th, so that’ll be the perfect thing to distract you from the election outcome for a little while at least.
