Diwali is one of the most auspicious Hindu festival that is celebrated with great joy across India. Every place has its own set of rituals, and traditions to celebrate the joyous occasion. It is believed that Diwali incurs wealth and prosperity. Hence, it is the day when Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh are prayed to.

5 dos and don’ts for Diwali:
Dos
- Adorn your home with lights, diyas and festive rangoli designs. Be cautious when lighting up diya, stay away from clothes, curtains and combustible things.
- Get ready with all the puja samagri at th shubh muhurat to celebrate Lakshmi Puja and avoid any delays.
- House cleaning: It is imperative to clean your homes as it symbolises purity and respect for the Gods and Goddess.
- Place Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi: Place the idols or images of the Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi to start the puja.
- Chant allotted mantras and perform the aarti to properly culminate the puja for Lakshmi/
Don’ts
- Often, people opt for sattvic food and avoid consumption of non-vegetarian food and alcohol.
- Be careful about the puja samagri. Ensure none of the goods are used or damages, It is auspicious to use all new and clean things.
- Be on time for the shubh muhurat for the puja to avoid delays.
- Ensure notes, money kept in Diwali puja are not torn and worn.
- Keep the puja area clean and decorated.
Lakshmi puja on Diwali 2024: Significance and rituals
Usually, on Lakshmi puja people get up early morning to take a fresh bath before starting the puja. Homes are cleanes, decorated with flowers, lights and colour. Some devotees, also tend to observe a full day fast on Lakshmi Puja.
People offer lotus, kheel, types of sweets, rice kheer, batasha supari, elach etc during the puja. It is only post puja that diyas and earthen lamps are lit up in the evening.
