Jennifer Lopez Wore Her Hair in a Bucket Hat, Mia Thermopolis-Style—See the Photos

When we saw Jennifer Lopez‘s latest look, it was like an instant flashback to 2001’s Disney classic The Princess Diaries. If you’re a fan of the Anne Hathaway movie, you’ll know exactly what we mean.

While it probably wasn’t intentional, Lopez absolutely reminded us of Hathaway as Princess Mia Thermopolis in her jaunty black Christian Dior hat, which she wore to a London photocall in support of her new movie Unstoppable. Most of her warm, light brunette hair was tucked up under the hat, reminiscent of the famous Princess Diaries scene where Mia hides her post-royal-makeover blowout under a gray bucket hat at school. But, you know, make it fashion.

While we don’t know for sure, it seems pretty likely that Lopez’s hair is pulled back into a low knot at her neck to help her hair fit under the Dior chapeau, and she’s not trying to hide a luscious, bouncy blowout from her classmates like Mia. Lopez has long been a hat fan, so she’s got the whole thing down to a science; remember all those glam floppy hats she wore in the late 2000s, or the long, sleek pony under her enormous hat at the 2019 Grammy Awards?

Glam-wise, Lopez mimicked her black-and-white outfit with a light eye shadow defined by lots of black liner on her upper and lower lashlines and massive, ultra-fluttery lashes that practically brushed the brim of her hat. She wore a pale nude glossy lip and a touch of highlighter on the apples of her cheeks.

Honestly, Lopez should teach a masterclass in how to wear your hair under a hat without it feeling bulky or awkward, because it looks truly effortless. It’s also perfect timing for such a look, as the temperature is steadily dropping in much of the United States and everyone is eager to pull out their seasonal headwear, like beanies, berets, cloches, and Princess Diaries-style bucket hats. Now, if you’ll excuse us, it’s time to learn about Voltaire.
