Bumble Inc: Bumble updates community guidelines to promote a safer and kinder experience

Bumble, the parent company of Bumble, Bumble for Friends, and Badoo, has updated its Community Guidelines. The guidelines aim to promote a safer and kinder experience for all its members by making it clear what content and conduct is not acceptable.
The revised guidelines highlight the importance of authenticity, safety, and kindness, says the company.
The policies have been to ensure fair and safe usage of its platform. The new guidelines prohibit any attempts to artificially influence connections, matches, conversations, or engagement through the use of automation or scripting.
In addition, the platform has updated its Bullying and Abusive Conduct policies to prohibit doxxing and the malicious sharing of personal identifying information. Bumble also discourages no-show behaviour by disallowing the act of not turning up to an in-person meet-up despite clear plans agreed upon by both parties. It is worth noting that Bumble is the only platform to have a policy related to victim blaming/shaming.
Bumble has also reinforced member safety by providing an industry-leading definition of sexual harassment, which it defines as any unwanted physical contact or attempted physical contact that is sexual in nature.
To further ensure a safe and positive experience for its users, Bumble has introduced a blanket ban on the promotion of adult content in profiles, including attempts to sell, advertise, or buy adult content.
Bumble says it uses machine learning models to enforce guidelines and prioritise member safety. Automated safeguards detect inappropriate comments and images, including harassment and hate speech, in over 100 languages. Over 8.2 million accounts have been blocked across Bumble and Badoo, most blocked automatically by 2023.
“Creating authentic connections that are rooted in kindness and respect is at the forefront of everything we do, and we are proud to be releasing such stringent and granular Community Guidelines that reinforce to our members what we expect of them both on and off our apps,” said Whitney Wolfe Herd, Founder, and CEO of Bumble. “Transparency, equity, intersectionality, and trauma-informed approaches are core to Bumble Inc.’s overarching policy principles that guide the development of our platform policies, and our updated Community Guidelines not only reflect these principles but reinstate our ongoing commitment to creating a safe and inclusive experience for all our members.”
