F1 Champ Lewis Hamilton Says Hypercars Are Boring, Buy Classic Cars And Art Instead

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton drives fast cars on track for a living, and many would think that he must be obsessed with driving fast cars on the street. While that may have been the case when he was a younger chap, buying a Pagani Zonda, Ferrari LaFerrari, and McLaren P1 among others, the 39-year-old Briton has matured beyond the need for four-figure horsepower and lowslung hypercars. In a recent interview with Germany’s Auto Motor Und Sport Hamilton admits that he’s no longer buying ultra rare high end sports cars.

In early 2023 the F1 GOAT allegedly took delivery of two AMG One hybrid hypercars, one for himself and one for his father Anthony, in honor of his many championships with Mercedes power. It seems he won’t be picking up a new Ferrari F80 when he moves to Maranello in 2025, however. That’s it, he’s done.

“The last car I bought was an AMG One, but it’s also my last supercar for the time being,” Hamilton said. “I’d rather spend my money on art now. I’m always discovering new artists, especially great Black artists.”

“Modern cars all look a bit the same. It’s a bit sad,” he continued. Instead, he’s drawn to classic cars for their distinct sound and emotional appeal, preferring them over the sleek but uniform designs of today.”

This change of heart doesn’t necessarily preclude Hamilton from buying some Ferrari metal to add to his stable as a member of the team. He’ll be much more distinguished and well-regarded in Italy if he were to drive around in an old Lusso or something. Buying an old Ferrari, maybe living in Il Commendatore’s old house, and racing for the team, he’ll be given a sainthood within six months. The bells will ring in Maranello once more.
