(NewsNation) — If anyone could have used some holiday cheer this year, it would have been the Secret Service. Sadly, the New York branch had to cancel their holiday party at the last minute due to President-elect Donald Trump’s impromptu visit to New York City, where he rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange Thursday morning.

”Logistics had to be done, everything had to be swept, posts had to be manned, and it just wasn’t possible to have the party Wednesday,” a source said.

Ironically, the annual Secret Service party was scheduled for Wednesday evening on the third floor of the NYSE, the same place Trump rang the bell Thursday morning. Invitees included current and former members of the Secret Service as well as top brass from Washington, D.C., and “friends” of the institution.

Attendees only found out Wednesday morning that the party was canceled and would be rescheduled for “sometime in January.”

2024 has not been the best year for the Secret Service

To be fair, the optics of a party would have been awful. It hasn’t been the best year for the Secret Service. Not only was Trump shot in July, but intruders were found on his property later that summer, and acting chief Donald Rowe got into a heated screaming match with GOP Texas Rep. Pat Fallon last week over an appearance Rowe made at a September 11 memorial service.

However, people in the know insist the NYC branch is semi-insulated from the drama as they are the cream of the crop and say the politics don’t reach the NYC branch.

A rep for the NYC branch of the Secret Service said: “Due to the steadfast commitment of the New York Field Office workforce to its protective mission, it was determined that the holiday celebration would be re-scheduled to January. This decision is operational in nature and should not be misconstrued as having anything to do with low morale. The men and women of the New York Field Office take great pride in their work, particularly as it relates to safeguarding our protectees.”
