Dr Anshuman Awasthi, Head of Innovation, VP – RD, EV and Hybrids, Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, said, “Electric is the best thing happening to mobility. The automotive industry experienced an unprecedented EV revolution, and Mercedes-Benz is leading the charge with AI-powered innovations in this space. Range anxiety has been considered one of the biggest hindrances to EV adoption. However, our research shows that the overall charging experience is the leading cause for not going for an EV today. Safety concerns with battery technology is the next one. This is where AI can help in transforming EV technology (driving and charging both) in crucial ways, starting with helping engineers to – design a battery that is suitable for a wide range of driving patterns; optimize battery design to enhance performance while it lasts longer; alleviate range anxiety by being accurate when calculating range, and reduce charging time and enhance the overall charging experience. AI can leverage data to estimate electric vehicle ranges based on current driving conditions and how the power is consumed by other systems, ensuring drivers have the information they need to plan their trips effectively. AI is quite capable of delivering a very human solution to one of the most complex engineering problems of making electric vehicles efficient, safe, reliable, and friendly. AI’s potential impact on the energy transition cannot be overstated, making sustainable transportation accessible and attractive for all at an accelerated pace. AI is the best thing happening to electric mobility.”
Raghavendra Vaidya, MD & CEO, Daimler Truck Innovation Centre India, added by saying, “The Indian market for electric trucks is a young industry with enormous development and transformation potential. At Daimler Truck Innovation Centre India we strongly believe that technology plays a huge role in shaping sustainable vehicles. Artificial intelligence (AI) is improving the effectiveness of electric vehicles (EVs) in a number of ways- i.e. through the use of predictive maintenance algorithms that may spot possible battery problems before they become serious, lowering maintenance costs and downtime, reducing range anxiety and making EVs more suitable for lengthy trips with the help of AI-based route planning. Not only does AI tackle these major issues in EVs, it also improves user experience through voice assistants and better personalization, and improves safety through advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). With stronger policy support, growing environmental consciousness, improved EV charging infrastructure, and the availability of more inexpensive EV models are all contributing to the growing popularity of electric vehicles in India, the country’s prospects for EV adoption remain extremely positive.”
Ravi Mehra, Deputy Managing Director, Uno Minda Limited, said, “World EV Day is a momentous occasion that celebrates the transformation and innovation towards clean and sustainable mobility. Uno Minda has been at the forefront of the electrification trend, recognizing it as an opportunity not only for business growth but also for our commitment towards the sustainability goals of our nation and making the world a better place to live. In line with India’s vision for an EV-driven nation, Uno Minda’s forward-thinking approach has enabled us to build one of the most comprehensive EV-specific components portfolio for electric two and three-wheelers right at the beginning of this mobility transformation curve. Going forward, we are committed to developing products for the electrification of passenger cars and vehicles in other segments as well. On this EV day celebration, we come together in unity to accelerate the transformation towards electrified and clean energy mobility– one that promises cleaner air, reduced dependence on fossil fuels, and ultimately creates a greener world for generations to come.”
Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, also added, “The road to a sustainable future is undoubtedly electric, and at Volvo Car India, we are committed towards it. We are committed to being an all-electric car company by 2030, leading the charge for cleaner, greener mobility. We have already introduced two Fully electric cars XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge in India, both of which are assembled in India and we intend to add more cars in coming years. The success of these EVs has given us encouragement to continue on this path. Our dedication to sustainable mobility doesn’t stop there; it extends to how we design our cars, how we produce our cars and how we sell & service them. We prioritise the use of recyclable materials to reduce our environmental footprint – C40 has leather-free interiors. Moreover, we are encouraging our dealers to adopt more green practices. Together, we’re paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow.”
Suhas Rajkumar, Founder, Simple Energy, added to the conversation by saying, “On this momentous occasion of World EV Day, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the pioneers, innovators, and enthusiasts in the industry who have contributed to this transformative journey towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. It’s incredible to witness how the electric vehicle revolution has evolved and gained momentum worldwide. We, at Simple, embarked on this mission with a vision to reduce our carbon footprint and promote cleaner commuting options. Today, as we celebrate the strides we’ve made, we’re also committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation further. Together, let’s keep charging ahead, forging a path towards a world where electric vehicles are not just a choice but a symbol of our collective commitment to preserving our planet for generations to come.”
