Competition in the middle-weight motorcycle segment could not get more sizzling, as Italian manufacturer Aprilia, has now unveiled its entry-level RS 457 sports motorcycle for India. This also makes Aprilia the third international brand to tap into he country’s growing thirst for lifestyle-oriented, middle-weight motorcycles. In recent times, we have seen Harley-Davidson enter the market with its entry-level H-D X440 and Triumph too, recently launched the Speed 400. However, Aprilia RS 457’s differentiator would be its racing heritage, supersports styling and the twin-cylinder engine that it offers. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

The design of the Aprilia RS 457 is sharp and very attractive. It is a fully faired sports motorcycle that borrows styling cues from the bigger RS 660 and the the RSV4 motorcycles. On the front it gets a sharp tusk-shaped LED DRL set up and a pair of LED headlamps as well. It also gets half handlebars and backlit controls. Rider information is take care of by the 5-inch TFT colour screen and on the side we can see the silver-finished aluminium frame. Something that we have only seen in much bigger supersport bikes up till now. It also gets a sharp tail-end with the LED brake lamp and indicators. On the front, the RS 457 gets 41mm USD forks with pre-load adjustment and at the rear it comes with a monoshock, again with pre-load adjustability. It also gets 17-inch alloy wheels with 110/70 section tyre on the front and 150/60 section tyre at the back. Braking duties are taken care of by a dual-disc system, with a 320 mm disc on the front and a 220 mm disc on the rear wheel.

Coming to the engine department, the Aprilia RS 457 gets a liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder, dual camshaft engine. It produces 47 hp of peak power. Power is delivered via the 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle has a dry weight of 159 kg, which will go up to around 175 kg with all the fluids. Aprilia has for now debuted the bike in India and pre-bokings for the same afe open, prices will be revelaed at a later time. The motorcycle will be a ‘Made-in-India’ product and will be manufactured at Piaggio India’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra.
