The temporary halt is actually due to the overwhelming response that the MPV has received in India, exceeding the company’s expectations. “We launched the All-New Toyota Rumion in August this year and have received overwhelming response from our customers who have been waiting for a Toyota vehicle in the B-MPV segment. We are heartened to see the increasing inflow of enquiries and healthy bookings for the All New Toyota Rumion,” said TKM in a release.

“The demand has surpassed our expectations, resulting in a long delivery time across variants, especially for the E-CNG option. This has necessitated us to temporarily halt bookings of the E-CNG option ONLY to avoid customer inconvenience due to longer waiting period.” Toyota says that it continues to accept bookings for the petrol-powered versions of the Rumion for now. It is yet to be seen when the bookings for the Rumion CNG would resume again.
The Toyota Rumion is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 103 hp of maximum power and 137 Nm of peak torque, available with a 5-speed MT or an optional 6-speed AT. On the CNG spec, the power drops down to 88 hp while torque reduces to 121.5 Nm, available with the 5-speed manual gearbox only. The Toyota Rumion petrol has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 20.51 km/l, while the Rumion CNG is claimed to return 26.11 km/kg.
