ROHTAK: The future universities will have to expand the frontiers of knowledge, prepare talented workforce for modern world, ensure qualitative education and academic excellence, align its academic programmes with the market trends, create solution based knowledge, and integrate the socially-economically marginalized sections of society into the mainstream of higher education.
This was stated by former chairperson of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof. Ved Prakash in the national seminar on “Future Universities” organised in Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) here on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest & keynote speaker, prof. Ved Parakash in his stimulating address said that the higher education today is facing crisis of leadership, crisis of governance, crisis of resources, and crises of values.
Today, keeping in view the economic challenges of running universities, vice-chancellors need to be competent managers too. He said that universities must address the challenges of socio-economic diversities as well.
Talking about the research-intensive universities of the world, Prof. Ved Prakash said that those universities are primarily public-funded. He gave a detailed background of development of higher education in India from 1947 till date.
Quoting legendary scientists, academic leaders, eminent scholars and world functionaries, he highlighted the role of higher education and teachers in societal transformation, national development, and progress of humanity.
MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajbir Singh in his presidential address said that human resources make academic institutions great.
Prof. Rajbir Singh said that collaborative education with national-international linkages, technology enabled teaching-learning customization of curriculum as per global requirements, student-centric approach, focus on development of critical thinking, creativity and innovation would be needed for future universities. He said that MDU would constitute task force for the futuristic transformation of the University.
Director, internal quality assurance cell (IQAC) Prof. B. Narsimhan delivered the welcome address. dean, academic affairs Prof. Surendra Kumar expressed the vote of thanks. Prof. Divya Malhan (IMSAR) conducted the stage in the Seminar.
