In less than five minutes of speaking with Andrea Lieberman, her utter passion for her work comes through. “We make real clothes for real women, always have. And we make real clothes that are not fussy,” she said of her work. Real, yes, but as an industry vet, Lieberman puts an emotion and simple polish into her wardrobe of pieces that you want to live in and wear for seasons.
Pre-fall’s starting point? A family trip to Colombia where “the colors, the architecture, the culture, the arts” inspired her work. Details can be seen throughout, from the sun-bleached colors to the addition of stripes, fringe details and pleating to make “the perfect summer wardrobe.”
A menswear Italian powder blue linen shirt with slightly larger cuffs had an heirloom quality — she styled it with a short white skirt with fringe trim, a simple but effective message. Tailored separates, jumpsuits, micro stretch on a batik printed dress that had movement, soft Japanese denim and summery ideas of knits like an ocean blue short with matching button-up top. She mixed yarns to create new plays on texture. They were great alone or over one of her swim proposals of the season — no prints or novelty this time. Her swim, she explained, “felt real for me” and she showed a range of styles that were clean and sharp with a few sensual cutout details, all in rich neutral colors. It’s a growing category for the brand.
Throw it all in one of her hand done raffia striped bags, an easy style with a lot of wardrobe mileage, just like the clothes.
