Punjab Kings made bold moves at the IPL 2025 auction, re-signing Arshdeep Singh for ₹18 crore and securing Shreyas Iyer and Yuzvendra Chahal for ₹26.75 crore and ₹18 crore, respectively, to build a title-challenging squad.
New Delhi: Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has hailed Arshdeep Singh as India’s most consistent wicket-taker after star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. He also commended the Punjab Kings for re-signing Arshdeep at the IPL 2025 mega auction, emphasizing that the left-arm pacer will once again spearhead the team’s bowling attack alongside Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Thakur, and Lockie Ferguson.
Punjab Kings made a surprising move by releasing Arshdeep Singh ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, retaining only two uncapped players—Shashank Singh, their highest run-scorer from IPL 2024, and Prabhsimran Singh. However, they re-signed Arshdeep at the auction for a staggering ₹18 crore.
Punjab Kings made bold moves at the IPL 2025 auction, securing captaincy contender Shreyas Iyer for an astonishing ₹26.75 crore. They also strengthened their bowling attack by acquiring Yuzvendra Chahal for ₹18 crore, alongside re-signing Arshdeep Singh for the same amount.
“They said at the start that they wanted Arshdeep for ₹18 crore. They would have spent that much only had they retained him. He is a Punjabi and will remain with the Punjabis and he is very good,” Chopra said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
“New ball, old ball, Indian fast bowler, if someone can do that consistently after Bumrah, it’s Arshdeep. He has run ahead of even Bumrah in terms of wicket-taking prowess. He remains a little expensive but has run ahead of him because he is a wicket-taker,” Chopra said.
Yuzvendra Chahal, released by Rajasthan Royals before the IPL 2025 mega auction, was acquired by Punjab Kings for a hefty sum. His inclusion adds significant value to the team’s bowling lineup, bringing experience and reliability to their spin attack.
“Yuzi Chahal – ₹18 crore. He kept going very far and we were gobsmacked about how far Yuzi would go. Spinners don’t get that much money. They get it at times, Rashid Khan has been retained for as much, but Rashid Khan is only one,” Chopra said.
Punjab Kings, yet to secure their maiden IPL title, have built a formidable squad with star acquisitions at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Fans will eagerly anticipate their performance in the upcoming season, hoping these key players can finally deliver championship success.
